See who's viewing a document or file, live

Documents and files now show who's reading them right now, with the section each person is on. People with access appear by name; everyone else appears as an anonymous animal. Your AI app can ask too.

  • Web app
  • Who's viewing in the header of every document and file: avatars, and a list of everyone here with the section, page or video moment they're on.
  • Names only for people with access: the owner, workspace members and people you invited. Everyone else, signed in or not, is "Anonymous Otter" and friends.
  • Show me as anonymous, for viewers who'd rather not be named. Show who's viewing in Share turns it off for a document.
  • Encrypted documents show only how many people are reading.
  • AI apps: the MCP server's new get_viewers and set_presence tools (28 tools now).
