# Install Markdrop as an app

Markdrop installs like an app on your phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to download from a store. The installed app opens in its own window, without the browser's address bar and tabs, and goes straight to your [dashboard](https://docs.markdrop.in/get-started/tour). It has its own icon on your home screen, dock, taskbar or Start menu.

Markdrop Guides installs as a separate app, **Markdrop Guides**, that opens on your guides. See [Install Markdrop Guides](#install-markdrop-guides).

## Install it

The quickest way is **Install app** in your account menu: select your avatar in the top-right corner of Markdrop, then **Install app**. It only appears where your browser can install apps and Markdrop isn't installed yet.

**iPhone and iPad**

1. Open [markdrop.in](https://markdrop.in/dashboard) in Safari (or Chrome or Edge on iOS 16.4 or later).
2. Tap **Share** in the toolbar. In Safari on iOS 26 it's under the **···** button first.
3. Scroll down and choose **Add to Home Screen**.
4. Keep **Open as Web App** on, then tap **Add**.

**Install app** in the account menu shows these steps too.

**Android**

1. Open [markdrop.in](https://markdrop.in/dashboard) in Chrome, Edge or Samsung Internet.
2. Choose **Install app** in your account menu, then **Install**.

Without the menu item, open the browser menu (**⋮**) and choose **Install app** or **Add to Home screen**.

**Windows, macOS, Linux**

In **Chrome** or **Edge**, choose **Install app** in your account menu, then **Install**. You can also select the install icon at the right end of the address bar.

In **Safari** on macOS Sonoma or later, choose **File › Add to Dock**, then **Add**. **Install app** in the account menu shows these steps.

Firefox on the desktop can't install web apps. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari for the app.

Installing doesn't sign you in again in Chrome, Edge or on Android. On an iPhone or iPad the installed app keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari, so sign in once inside it.

## What's different in the app

- **It opens on your dashboard.** Signed out, it shows the sign-in page and then your dashboard. The marketing pages never appear inside the app.
- **Shortcuts.** Press and hold (or right-click) the app's icon for **New page**, **Search**, **Markdrop Guides** and **Analytics**.
- **Its own window.** Links to other sites open in your browser. Documents and files you open stay in the app.
- **Updates itself.** When a new version of Markdrop is out, the app shows **A new version of Markdrop is ready** with a **Reload** button. Reload when it suits you; until then you keep working in the version you have.

## When you're offline

Markdrop needs the internet: your documents, files and pages live on Markdrop, not on your device. Without a connection, the app shows **You're offline** instead of a browser error page, and reloads by itself when you're back online.

The app keeps only its own code and icons on your device, so it starts fast. It never stores your documents, files, pages or anything you can see only when signed in.

## Install Markdrop Guides

The [Guides studio](https://docs.markdrop.in/guides/overview) lives at guides.markdrop.in, so it installs as its own app:

1. Open [guides.markdrop.in](https://guides.markdrop.in).
2. Choose **Install app** in your account menu, or follow the steps for your device above.

**Markdrop Guides** opens on your guides, with a **New guide** shortcut on its icon.

## Uninstall

Remove it the way you remove any app: press and hold the icon and choose **Remove App** (iPhone, iPad, Android), or, in the app's window on a computer, open the **⋮** menu and choose **Uninstall Markdrop**. Your account and everything in it stay on Markdrop.
