# Ask AI on your guide

Ask AI lets readers ask a question in their own words and get an answer written from your pages, with a link to the exact section each part came from. It only uses your **published** pages: drafts never reach it.

## Turn it on

### Open the setting
Open the guide's **Settings** and find **Ask AI**. Only Guides admins can change it.

### Switch it on
Turn the switch **On**.

### Publish
Readers get the assistant after the next [publish](https://docs.markdrop.in/guides/publishing). Turning it off works the same way.

## Make it yours

- **Name readers see**: what the button and panel are called, like "Ask Acme". Empty means **Ask AI**.
- **Suggested questions**: up to 5, shown before someone types and on the guide's home page. Type one and press Enter; choose **×** on a question to remove it.

## What readers get

- **Ask** from the header button, the search box, or the home page.
- Answers come only from your published pages. Each claim has a numbered source that opens the section it came from.
- On a page, they can ask about that page or one section of it.

## Answers each month

Each guide has a monthly number of Ask AI answers while Markdrop Guides is in beta. The **Ask AI** card shows how many have been used this month. At the limit, readers get links to ask Claude or ChatGPT with the page attached instead.

Better pages make better answers: clear headings, one topic per section, and the words your readers use. See [Write in the editor](https://docs.markdrop.in/guides/editor).

## Guides that aren't public

Ask AI is for public guides. On a password-protected or members-only guide it stays off, whatever the switch says. Those guides are [coming soon](https://docs.markdrop.in/guides/site-settings#who-can-read-it), so today every published guide can have it.
