# Keyboard shortcuts

On Windows and Linux, use **Ctrl** where this page says **⌘** and **Alt** where it says **⌥**.

## Anywhere in the page

| Shortcut | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `/` | Open the block menu |
| `:` and a name | Insert an emoji (`:rocket` gives 🚀) |
| **⌘ Z** / **⌘ ⇧ Z** | Undo / redo |
| **⌘ F** | Find and replace |
| **⌘ K** | Link the selected text |
| **⌘ B** / **⌘ I** / **⌘ U** / **⌘ E** | Bold / italic / underline / inline code |
| **⌘ ⇧ H** | Apply the last text colour or highlight again |
| **⌘ ⇧ K** | Keyboard key style |
| **Esc** | Select the block you're in |
| **⇧ ↑** / **⇧ ↓** | With a block selected: add the block above / below |
| **⌘ A**, then **⌘ A** again | Select the line's text, then every block |
| **⌘ D** | Duplicate the block (or the selected blocks) |
| **Delete**, **⌘ C**, **⌘ X** | With blocks selected: delete, copy or cut them |
| **⌘ ⇧ ↑** / **⌘ ⇧ ↓** (or **⌥ ⇧ ↑ / ↓**) | Move the block up / down |
| **⌘ Enter** | Check or uncheck a to-do |
| **Tab** / **⇧ Tab** | Nest the line under the block above / bring it back out (a list item: indent / outdent); in a table, the next / previous cell |
| **Enter** in the title | Start writing at the top of the page |

| **⌘ ⌥ 6** | Numbered list |
| **⌘ ⌥ 7** | Toggle (the line becomes its summary) |
| **⌘ ⌥ 8** | Code |
| **⌘ ⌥ 9** | Quote |

## Markdown as you type

At the start of a line:

| Type | You get |
| --- | --- |
| `#`, `##`, `###` and a space | Heading 1, 2, 3 |
| `-`, `*` or `+` and a space | Bulleted list |
| `1.` and a space | Numbered list |
| `[]` or `[x]` and a space | To-do |
| `>` or `"` and a space | Quote |
| ` ``` ` | Code block |
| `---` | Divider |
| `$$` and a space | Equation |

Inside a line: `**bold**`, `*italic*`, `` `code` `` and `~~strike~~`.

## In menus

The block menu, the emoji menu and pickers work from the keyboard: **↑** / **↓** to move, **Enter** to choose, **Esc** to close.

## Paste

| Shortcut | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **⌘ V** | Paste. Content from other apps and Markdown become blocks. See [Paste into a page](https://docs.markdrop.in/pages/paste). |
| **⌘ ⇧ V** | Paste as plain text |
| **↑** / **↓**, **Enter** | After pasting a link on its own: choose **Link**, **Mention**, **Bookmark** or **Embed** |
| **Esc** | After pasting a link on its own: keep it as a link |
