AI apps can rename, move and delete folders, and folders never get a silent -2

Three new MCP tools: rename_folder, move_folder and delete_folder, for workspace admins, as in the app. A new folder whose address is already taken is refused, with what holds it, instead of quietly becoming name-2. A renamed or moved folder's old address now redirects.

  • Web app
  • MCP server
  • API
  • delete_folder deletes an empty folder (to Trash for 30 days). A folder with anything in it is refused, and the error lists what's inside: subfolders, the items you can open, and a count of the rest. Choose contents: "move_to_parent" to move everything up one level first, or contents: "trash" to send the folder with everything in it to Trash. restore_document with the folder's id brings it back.
  • rename_folder and move_folder: the folder's old address and the old addresses of everything in it redirect to the new ones on your domain.
  • No silent -2. create_folder, and New folder, Rename folder… and Move folder to… in the app, refuse an address that a folder, page, document or file already has in that place, and say what holds it. An item you can't open is never named and never blocks you: the folder takes the next free address, and MCP's result says so. For a suffixed address, pass on_conflict: "suffix" (MCP and API).
  • Old folder addresses redirect. Renaming or moving a folder used to leave its own page's old address empty. It now redirects to where the folder is, and so do the addresses of its subfolders.
  • list_folders gives each folder's id, address and parent, which the folder tools take (79 MCP tools now).
