Edit a document right in its Preview

When you edit a published Markdown document, the Preview tab is now editable: click into a heading, paragraph, list, table, code or math block and type. The Markdown stays the source, and blocks you don't touch keep their exact text.

  • Web app
  • Type where it renders. Headings, paragraphs, lists, checklists, quotes, tables, code and math are editable in Preview. Write and Split work as before, and your changes carry across all three.
  • / in Preview offers the blocks a document renders: text, headings, lists, checklist, quote, code, table, math and divider.
  • Nothing changes on its own. Opening Preview and saving leaves the Markdown exactly as it was.
  • Raw HTML and footnotes stay read-only in Preview: change them in Write (Edit as Markdown switches to it).
  • ⌘ S, Save, Esc and Cancel act on what you just typed. Past the 500,000-character limit, the status line says how far over you are and Save says so plainly.
