Live now

Builds on Analytics overview.

Live view shows what's happening on your links at this moment: how many people are reading or watching, and where they are in it. It's handy right after you share something, or during a talk or a launch.

Go to markdrop.in/dashboard/live, or open Analytics and choose Live. When someone is on your links, the button shows the count instead, like 3 people live.

On a single link's analytics page, a badge such as 2 reading now or 1 watching now shows who's on that link.

What you see

#

The header says how many people are on how many links, like 5 people across 2 links, or Nobody right now.

  • Each video or audio file gets its own panel, with a dot on the timeline for each viewer and a line for each, like "2:14 · someone in the US, on a phone".
  • Reading now lists documents, PDFs and other files with a count, and where most readers are: a heading, or a page number.
  • Last 30 minutes is a short feed of recent events, such as someone opening a link, a link being previewed in Slack, how far someone read, or the page someone reached in a PDF.

The page updates every 10 seconds while the tab is open.

How live is worked out

#

A visitor's page sends a small signal every 15 seconds while it's visible. Someone counts as live for 45 seconds after their last signal, so a reader who closes the tab drops off within a minute. Signals pause after 5 minutes without any activity, unless media is playing.

Live presence is kept in memory only and never saved.

Privacy

#
  • Only countries and device types are shown, never who someone is.
  • Your own visits aren't shown.
  • Views from your workspace's members aren't shown.
