Do you need an account?
Writing and publishing a document never needs an account, and neither does reading anything shared with "Anyone with the link". An account is for the things that have to belong to someone: files you upload, documents only certain people can open, and analytics about your readers.
Without an account
#You can:
- Publish documents at markdrop.in/new, with a custom link, a password, an expiry, and end-to-end encryption.
- Publish a README from the README builder.
- Edit or delete what you published, using its edit secret.
- Send files peer to peer from markdrop.in/share. See Send files peer to peer.
- Read anything open to anyone with the link.
Everything you publish without an account is open to anyone with the link. "Only people added" needs an owner to add the people, so it needs an account.

#There is no password to remember. Go to markdrop.in/login and choose one:
- Continue with Google.
- Email me a code. Markdrop emails you a 6-digit code and a sign-in link. Enter the code, or open the link on the same device.
Your first sign-in creates the account. You stay signed in on that browser for 30 days, or until you choose Sign out.
Sign in with the address people share things with. Markdrop matches shared documents to the email address of the account you're signed in with. Letter case doesn't matter, but alice+docs@acme.com and alice@acme.com are different addresses.
Move anonymous documents into your account
#A document you published while signed out isn't attached to any account. To attach it, sign in in the same tab you published from and choose Save to my account on the document. See Edit with your edit secret.
Once it's yours, it appears in My files with its analytics, and you can choose who can open it.
Your profile
#Open Settings in the sidebar to change your Display name, which people in your workspaces see. Your email is your sign-in address and can't be changed there.
